The history…
It all started back in 1980
Our first office was basically a cupboard under the stairs in Wallington Square. The locals nicknamed it the Tardis although I’m not entirely sure why – the inside didn’t look any larger when you opened the door!
We moved from there to a half shop unit, then a full shop unit and then into a larger shop unit with offices above, all within Wallington Square. We eventually moved from Wallington to Cheam village in 2011, which is where we are today.
In the early days work was scarce until gradually our name became well known. The drivers of those early days still provide the backbone of today’s managerial team. Frank, our Customer Service Director, Steve, our Passenger Operations Director and David, our Courier Operations Director all started out with us as cab drivers. Alan, Tony, Derek, Dave Edwards, Jon Potts and Jon Clark also all started out as our drivers and form part of our Operations Team.
Initially we were a cash-based enterprise however it soon became apparent that many local businesses were starting to use us for parcel deliveries and wanted business accounts. We bought our first couple of vans and within a short space of time this side of the business grew at an incredible rate. We now have a fleet of over 200 vehicles and more than 1000 account customers which are located from Bromley in the east, Crawley in the south, Heathrow in the west to Central London in the north.
As we grew
The Private Sector side of the business, we also ventured into the Public Sector and we are now suppliers to the London Boroughs of Sutton, Croydon, Merton, Kingston, Wandsworth, Lambeth and Bexley. We also carry out contract work for Surrey County Council, Epsom & St Helier NHS Trust, Croydon University Hospital and The Royal Marsden Trust.
In 1995 we became Wallington Cars & Couriers Limited and you will see our large fleet of branded vehicles all over the country. We have also developed into hiring vehicles to both courier drivers and private hire drivers.
Recently Lisa joined us from DHL as Sales Director. Lisa has a wealth of experience in the industry and has become an important part of the team.
Our admin department is run by another Steve. One of his roles is to get the money in from you, our customers, so perhaps enough said about him. Seriously though Steve will be happy to assist you with any credit control issues you may have.
From day one we have always been a company that invests in its future. Only last year we spent over £1 million on new vehicles as well as improving our IT systems so that we continue to provide the highest quality of service we can. We have always realised the importance of technology in keeping ahead of the competition.
We have achieved certification for ISO 27001 as well as Cyber Essentials. These standards underline the quality of the service which we provide.
Our drivers are always smart and polite and are aware that not only are they providing you with a high level of service but, importantly, that they are also ambassadors for your business.
Give us a try we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
